Hi, I’m Kelly

I’m a salon owner, hairdresser, and educator specializing in Bridal, Bobs, & Balayage.  With over 20 years experience, I am part of the Moroccanoil Artistic Team and travel throughout North America sharing my passion and knowledge with other stylists.  When I’m not on the road you’ll find me behind the chair at my home base, Be the Light Hair Studio.  I’m also a freelance artist, and love traveling to style weddings on location.  Growing up in the hair industry, I knew I wanted to be a hairdresser from an early age.  Even more, I knew I wanted to teach and help other stylists build their skills and businesses.

A little more about me~ I don’t believe we were created to do life on our own, and I love to be surrounded by my tribe!  I’m so thankful for my husband and our three beautiful children we get to enjoy together, and feel blessed that our extended family lives so close.  On my days off, I would much rather get together with a friend and her kids because it’s more fun to momming together than momming alone—you know, takes a village!  I always try to get to a group fitness class because I hate working out by myself, and I even found a way to make running a team sport!  So from the beginning of my career, I knew I didn’t want to do hair behind the chair on my own, which is why at my first job interview when I was asked where I saw myself in five years, I said, “as one of your educators.  I mean, I know I just graduated from school and all, but still, I know that is my goal,” and now after working as an education director in a large salon for almost 20 years, I co-own a beautiful 4-chair rental salon with my best friend, sister-in-law, and sister in Christ.  Come visit me in the Studio–I’d love to tell you more of our story!

As a young stylist, I signed up for every class that was available to me and soaked in every bit of education I could.  The more I learned, the more my hunger for this industry grew.  Winner of the 2009 USA Gold Colorist Award, I had the incredible opportunity to compete in Berlin, Germany, in the Wella Trend Vision competition, which further opened my eyes to what the wide world of hairdressing has to offer. Mentored by world-renowned artists such as Nick Arrojo, Kevin Murphy, and Oribe, I have since styled hair backstage at New York Fashion Week with Moroccanoil and Sebastian Professional, and have been published in Behind the Chair and Beauty Launchpad.

I believe down to my core that when we stop learning, we stop growing, and as I continue to seek my own education, I am even more thankful to be part of this amazing industry!  I love to travel, gather inspiration, and most of all, connect with new people.  So… I want to meet you!  Send me an email or connect with me on Instagram!  Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi, I’m Kelly

And I’m a hairdresser and educator specializing in special events and bridal styling.  With over 16 years experience, I am part of the Moroccanoil Artistic Team and travel throughout North America sharing my passion and knowledge with other stylists.  When I’m not on the road you’ll find me behind the chair at my home base, Spalon Montage.  I’m also a freelance artist, and love traveling to style weddings on location.  Growing up in the hair industry, I knew I wanted to be a hairdresser from an early age.  Even more, I knew I wanted to teach and help other stylists build their skills and businesses.

I’ve never been a person who wanted to do life by myself. I mean, I know I just graduated from school and all, but still, I know that is my goal,” and now as an Education Director at Spalon Montage, I have an apprentice working with me everyday.
